The Pro-ARIDES program in Niger took part in SAHEL, the Salon de l’Agriculture, de l’Hydraulique, de l’Environnement et de l’Élevage du Niger held in Niamey from February 25 to March 2, 2022, with the theme: “L’Agriculture nigérienne dans la zone de libre-échange continentale africaine. How to ensure: modernization of techniques, competitiveness of value chains, youth and women entrepreneurship”.
The main objective of this participation is to ensure the communication and visibility of the Pro-ARIDES program to the general public, and to the organizations of producers, processors and other agro, slylvo pastoral professionals from Niger and the sub-region present at this event, as well as to exchange with actors in value chains and agricultural sectors with a view to studying comparative advantages, challenges and sustainable competitiveness.
The Pro-ARIDES stand was visited by a number of participants who had come to find out more about the program and its implementation, and above all to exchange views on possible partnerships or program support.
Various types of agricultural produce (potatoes, green beans, cabbage, etc.) from the farmers’ organizations supported by the program were displayed at the stand to give concrete visibility to the program’s actions.
SAHEL is organized by the national network of Niger’s chambers of agriculture (RECA) in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and other sectoral ministries such as the Ministry of Livestock, the Ministry of the Environment and the Fight against Desertification, the Ministry of Hydraulics, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Youth Entrepreneurship, the Ministry of Vocational Training, as well as the High Commission for the 3n initiative “Nigeriens nourissent les nigériens” (HCI3n). The 2022 edition of Sahel Niger registered 520 exhibitors and over 200,000 visitors, according to RECA estimates. It was structured into five (5) hubs: the exhibition hub, the conference hub, the media hub, the competition hub and the advertising hub.
